ABSTRAK
**THE FORBIDDEN LOVE** The bell at Ravenhill High rang sharply across the wide courtyard, echoing between the old stone buildings and sending students pouring out of classrooms like water from a broken dam. Laughter, chatter, and the scrape of chairs filled the air. It was the beginning of a new term, and with it came new rumors, new rivalries, and—though no one could yet guess—new love. Elizabeth Carter stood near the front gates, clutching the straps of her backpack as she scanned the crowd. She had transferred only two weeks earlier, and despite her calm expression, her stomach fluttered every morning before school. Ravenhill was prestigious, competitive, and full of students who had known each other for years. She was the outsider. Her dark curls were tied back loosely, and sunlight glinted off the silver pendant at her neck—an old family heirloom her mother insisted she wear for luck. Elizabeth wasn’t sure whether it worked, but she touched it whenever she felt nervous. “Move, you’re blocking the path.” The sharp voice came from behind her. Elizabeth turned just in time to avoid colliding with a tall boy who strode past with an irritated look on his face. His blazer was unbuttoned, tie loosened, dark hair falling into eyes that looked far too serious for someone his age. “Sorry,” she said quickly. He paused, glanced back at her, and nodded stiffly before disappearing into the crowd. “That’s Damon Hale,” a girl beside Elizabeth whispered. Elizabeth blinked. “Oh. Is he… famous?” The girl laughed softly. “In a way. His family owns half the city, and he acts like it.” Elizabeth followed the direction Damon had gone, curiosity sparking. Something about his posture—rigid, guarded—made her think he carried more weight than just a wealthy surname. --- ### **Enemies in Disguise** Damon Hale didn’t believe in distractions. At least, that was what he told himself as he walked through the marble-floored hallways of Ravenhill High. His father’s expectations followed him everywhere: top grades, perfect conduct, leadership roles. There was no room for mistakes—especially not the kind that involved emotions. So when he found himself thinking about the girl by the gate—the one with the silver necklace and wide, thoughtful eyes—it irritated him. He pushed open the door to the student council room. Christopher Monroe was already inside, lounging against a desk and scrolling through his phone. “You’re late,” Christopher said without looking up. “You don’t run the clock,” Damon replied. Christopher smirked. He was Damon’s closest friend—charismatic, reckless in a way Damon never allowed himself to be, and permanently amused by everything. “New term, new students, new chaos. I love it.” “Of course you do.” Shirley Bennett sat at the far end of the room, carefully organizing a stack of folders. She was efficient, calm, and sharp-eyed—vice president of the council and known for missing nothing. “There’s a transfer student,” Shirley said casually. “Elizabeth Carter.” Damon froze for half a second before forcing himself to continue walking. “And?” he asked. Christopher raised an eyebrow. “You already know her name?” “No.” Shirley shrugged. “She tested into advanced classes. Smart. Quiet. People are already talking.” Damon sat down. He told himself he didn’t care. He was lying. --- ### **Crossed Paths** Elizabeth’s first real encounter with Damon happened in chemistry class. She arrived early, taking a seat near the window. Sunlight streamed in, warming the tabletop as she arranged her notebook and pens. A shadow fell across her desk. “Is this seat taken?” Elizabeth looked up—and recognized him instantly. Damon Hale. She hesitated, then shook her head. “No.” He sat down, placing his bag carefully beneath the desk. For a few minutes, they worked in silence while the teacher prepared equipment at the front. Elizabeth could feel his presence beside her—calm, intense, strangely magnetic. “So,” she said before she could stop herself, “you go to the gate every morning just to scare new students?” Damon turned, surprised. “I wasn’t trying to scare you.” “Could’ve fooled me.” For the first time, a hint of amusement flickered in his eyes. “You were standing in the middle of the path.” “Fair enough.” He studied her for a moment. “You’re the transfer student.” Elizabeth blinked. “That obvious?” “Yes.” She smiled faintly. “I’ll take that as neutral.” Damon hesitated. “Damon.” “Elizabeth.” Their handshake was brief, but something about it lingered—like the start of a conversation neither of them quite understood yet. --- ### **Christopher’s Curiosity** Christopher noticed. He always noticed. From his seat across the lab, he watched Damon and Elizabeth work together—leaning over the same worksheet, occasionally exchanging quiet comments. When the bell rang, Christopher slid up beside Damon. “New friend?” Damon frowned. “Lab partner.” “Mmm-hmm.” Elizabeth passed them on her way o
