ABSTRAK
In a remote Somali village where tradition reigns supreme, young girls are forced to undergo Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), a practice deeply embedded in their culture. Among them is Ayaan Mohamed, a bright and courageous girl who refuses to accept her fate. While others surrender to fear, Ayaan dreams of education, freedom, and a life beyond the desert sands.
With the help of a kind teacher and a few brave allies, Ayaan and a small group of girls make a daring escape. But their defiance comes at a terrible cost—those who aid them are brutally punished, and some of the girls are captured and subjected to the very fate they tried to escape. Ayaan, however, reaches the city, where she is taken in by Misky, a former runaway who is now an educated woman fighting to end FGM.
Years later, Ayaan returns—no longer a helpless girl, but a powerful woman determined to rescue others. She and her fellow survivors form a secret network, helping young girls flee while challenging the elders who enforce the practice. But the village does not welcome change. Betrayals, violence, and death threaten to silence them forever.
As tensions rise, Ayaan comes face to face with Ugas Abdi, the feared elder who upholds the tradition. Their battle is not only for survival but for the soul of the community. Will Ayaan’s courage be enough to break generations of oppression? Or will the desert swallow yet another generation of daughters?
A gripping tale of resilience, sacrifice, and the fight for justice, Daughters of the Desert is a story of pain, hope, and the unbreakable spirit of women who refuse to be silenced
